The Popdust weekend playlist

It hasn't been the best seven days for pop fans, having just lost one of our favorite performers of recent years, and still trying to figure out what exactly happened and why. But pop music goes on, and the freakin' weekend is once again upon us, which means it's time to start moving on.

Not completely, of course - the presence of Amy Winehouse continues to loom large over Popdust at this time, and our Weekend Playlist is no exception - but at this point, we more celebrate what was than mourn what is. So jam out to our ten tracks listed below, and be thankful for pop's power to get us through some otherwise dark times.

Mariah Carey featuring Da Brat & Xscape - "Always be my baby (So So Def Remix)"

With both Mariah Carey and Da Brat making headlines this week (on our site, anyway), we're reminded of simpler times for both artists. The excellent Jermaine Dupri remix of Mariah's 1996 chart-topper puts a more contemplative, significantly chiller spin on Mariah's ebullient love song, with Da Brat showing up in the video to bring the ruckus and the pain like Meth, still in full-on tomboy gear with dreads and sunglasses. It's still not really a patch on the original, but for a nice, laid back change-of-pace, you could do a whole lot worse.
