Celebs and body parts: strange insurance covers

Holly Madison
This week, F1 star Fernando Alonso insured his thumbs for £9 mn and former Girls Next Door star and Hugh Hefner's ex Holly Madison insured her breasts for $1 mn. However, they are not the first celebrities to take out a body parts policy.

Mariah Carey

After winning Gillette's "Legs of a Goddess Award" in 2006, Mariah Carey insured her pins for $1 billion. And no, before you ask, that's not a typo. A spokesperson for the eccentric singer claimed "the sum reflects her popularity".

David Lee Roth

Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth had his sperm insured for £6,56,000. The policy was thought to protect against a potential paternity suit should he inadvertently impregnate a groupie.

Heidi Klum

As a supermodel, Heidi Klum's career is totally reliant on her legs, making the £1.5 million policy she took out on them seem a fairly sensible move. That is until you realise one limb is valued at £1,30,000 more than the other. The difference? Heidi has a tiny scar on her left knee.

Dolly Parton

As the head of a $100 million media empire, Dolly Parton is more than aware that image is everything. It's therefore unsurprising to learn that the country and western singer has her breasts insured for nearly £2,00,000 each.

Merv Hughes

Cricketer Merv Hughes insured his impressive moustache for £2,25,000 during his time with the Australian national side.

Tom Jones

Tom Jones had his chest hair insured for £3.5 million in 2008. The geriatric crooner still has the power to make the ladies swoon and apparently considers his luxurious pelt an essential aspect of his sex appeal.

Keith Richards

Rolling Stones' Keith Richards is rumoured to have had his hands insured for $2 million. As those guitar playing hands helped Richards co-write some of rock 'n' roll's most famous songs, the policy may well seem justified - until you think back to the way Keith has abused the rest of his body over the years.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez's backside is the most famous in the business and has arguably generated more fame than her music and film work combined. J Lo is rumoured to have insured her bum for around £18 million in the mid-2000s.
