Mariah shows off her curves in a tight cutaway dress

She was being presented with the Icon Award, so it was only right for Mariah Carey to make an entrance last night (Friday) and that she certainly did. The 42-year-old singer looked stunning as she arrived at the BMI Urban Music Awards in Beverley Hills wearing a tight black dress.
As she posed on the red carpet with her hands on her hips, the mother-of-two turned to the side where she revealed some flesh in the cutaway dress. Mariah teamed the floor-length garment with big curly hair, silver bracelets and tasseled black earrings. She was joined on the red carpet by her husband, Nick Cannon, who also posed for photographs with her.
Despite being the recipient of such an honorable award, in true diva-style, Mariah actually turned up late to the annual event - which was held at the Saban Theatre - but that didn't stop the night being all about her. A couple of the other guests actually treated Mariah to a performance of her own songs, with Eric Benét singing One Sweet Day, and Fantasia Barrino singing Hero. Mariah even joined in for the last part of Fantasia's performance, after the former American Idol came off the stage and stood right in front of the superstar.
BMI chief Del Bryant presented Mariah with the Icon Award for her outstanding songwriting that has resulted in 18 No. 1 singles and more than 200 million albums sold. He not only described Mariah as "an unparalleled musical superstar" and "the greatest singer in history", but also touched on her new role as a judge on hit TV show, American Idol. "Who knows more about musical artistry and song selection than Mariah Carey?" he asked. "Sorry, Randy, didn't see you there!" he added to fellow judge, Randy Jackson, who was seated in the audience.
However, the Dreamlover singer didn't mention the reality TV show herself when she headed on stage to collect her award. Instead she thanked the performers "for doing something so beautiful with the songs I wrote" and also thanked BMI for honouring her songwriting contributions.
"I'm so humbled by this moment because a lot of people still don't know I write my own songs," she said to the crowd which included Karen Clark Sheard, Brely Evans and rapper Mac Miller.
