Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj were in talks to do The Voice

Before Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj signed the dotted line on their American Idol contracts, they considered taking seats on The Voice's stage alongside Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. A show source tells Us Weekly that both the legendary vocalist and the "Starships" rapper were in talks to join The Voice as team coaches, as producers searched for artists to replace Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green. (Show insiders confirmed to Us Monday that neither coach will take part in the hit show's upcoming season, while also revealing that Usher and Shakira have signed on to take their places.)

Meanwhile, FOX announced Sunday morning that Minaj and country star Keith Urban will be joining American Idol's judging panel for its new season; Grammy Winner Carey was one of the first new Idol judges to sign on following Jennifer Lopez's departure, negotiating an impressive $18 million deal with show executives earlier this summer.

The Voice's other two coaches, Shelton and Levine, are slated to return for the program's fourth season.
