Tribute to heroes to hit stores

While it always seems to take forever for the labels to release the latest album from your favourite band, they've wasted no time in getting those patriotic post-911 tributes on the shelves. Several multi-media mementos of the America: A Tribute To Heros telethon are set for release in Canada on December 4.

The not-for-profit DVD, video cassette and double disc CD are the culmination of a collaborative effort by artists. As you may remember from watching the spectacle on television, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, U2, Faith Hill, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Enrique Iglesias, Neil Young, Alicia Keys, Limp Bizkit and John Rzeznick (Goo Goo Dolls), Billy Joel, Dixie Chicks, Dave Matthews, Wyclef Jean, Mariah Carey, Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Sting, Eddie Vedder, Paul Simon, Celine Dion and Willie Nelson all took part in the telethon to raise money for victims of the terrorist attacks.

The five big-wig music companies (BMG, EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner) are suspending label exclusivity clauses and waiving publishing fees under their control, to assist with the project. The performers are also waiving all of their rights and fees as they did for the two-hour Tribute that aired September 21 on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC. All funds will go towards the September 11 Telethon Fund.

On the DVD and videocassette, celebrities describe accounts of heroism and patriotism. Some famous names included are Robert De Niro, Muhammad Ali, Jim Carrey, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Tom Cruise.
