On thin ice

Perhaps Mariah Carey should have worn more practical shoes. Leave it to the Glitter star to defy common sense and wear high-heeled platform boots in the slippery Aspen, Colorado snow. Mariah's two bodyguards had their work set out for them as the curvy star cut a precarious path to her waiting SUV after another shopping spree on Christmas Eve.

Not only have they shadowed Mariah's every move since she arrived in Aspen for the holidays, but they've prevented the voluptuous star from falling on her face. Mariah's out of this world ensemble included the pair of black suede heels which seemed a good few inches high, as well as the chunky platform.

As seems to be her custom, Mariah also wore a too-tight green jacket over a clingy black top and black lycra trousers that revealed every curve of her lower body. She wore two-tone shades that only partially concealed her large eyes, as well as earmuff headphones attached to her iPod.

The singer held on to the hand of her burly companion as she waved and smiled at fans and they held on to her as well. The bodyguards were noticeably nervous and they had good reason to be, as the sidewalks were slick with ice and dangerously slippery. But the songstress seemed not to have a care in the world.

On Sunday Mariah stepped out to do some shopping for her 20-month-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, wearing a too-little black jacket that she couldn't even zip up. That outfit also consisted of a black leotard top, skintight blue jeans and furry black boots that seemed to possess a life of their own.

And then on Saturday, Mariah was seen in town wearing a bizarre get-up that featured a black and white checked long dress cinched at the waist by a tiny black corset. Mariah is obviously enjoying the holiday season, her second with husband Nick Cannon, 32, while in the wintry mountain town.

On Christmas Eve, Nick was all about the children, tweeting a cute picture of Moroccan and Monroe playing with one of the new toys. "Connect 4! My kids going in on Christmas Eve," wrote the proud papa. But after Christmas, Mariah will be back to work on the 12th season of American Idol, which premieres January 16, alongside new judges Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

She is also working on her new album, due out in March. "I'm collaborating with a lot of my favorite people but the main thing is I'm not trying to follow any particular trend, I want it to be well received," Mariah has said. "I want to stay true to myself and the music that I love and make the fans happy."
