Mariah Carey's video preview offers few specifics

Mariah Carey isn't a diva who's often known for her restraint, but that's exactly the trait she's displaying with the preview for her upcoming new song. Carey debuted a vague preview video for "Beautiful", a single slated for full debut on May 6. It's the first track from what will be her 14th studio album, which has yet to receive a release date. The preview doesn't offer much in the way of what the song will actually sound like, aside from a few indistinct beats and the words "the new era begins".

"Beautiful" features Miguel, who told MTV News on Wednesday while attending the Time 100 gala that he didn't know "why fans would put that together," referring to the rumors he and Carey were collaborating. When asked what the duet would sound like were it real, he described it as, fittingly, "beautiful". We see what you did there, Miguel.

"Beautiful" is Carey's first single off a regular studio album since 2010's "Angels Cry", feautirng Ne-Yo. Since then she's released a second Christmas album, a non-album single - "Triumphant (Get 'Em)", featuring Rick Ross and Meek Mill - and "Almost Home", an entry on the "Oz the Great and Powerful" soundtrack.

It's understandable if Carey's album, originally expected to see a March release, has been delayed, given her grueling "American Idol" schedule - if she isn't ousted from the show, that is - and the twins she has at home. Carey has revealed at least a few details about the album, though, even if they don't include a title or release date. She spoke to Billboard last month while recording tracks with producers Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, and the singer disclosed that Big Jim Wright, Hit-Boy, The-Dream and Rodney Jerkins also are all onboard as producers.

"It's a lot to juggle, but I'm handling it," Carey said. "I could say, 'Let's stop now.' But that's not who I am, and that's not what I want this record to be. I really want the fans to love this record."
