Mariah axed
Mariah Carey has been dropped by UK label EMI after poor sales of her last album, "Glitter". Just eight months after signing the £60million, four-album deal, the troubled diva will be paid a seven-figure sum to terminate the deal. "Glitter" sold only two million copies worldwide indicating that Mariah's popularity was well past her mid-nineties peak when "Music Box" sold 20 million.
The trouble started when Mariah suffered a nervous breakdown back in July after splitting with her boyfriend, singer Luis Miguel. Mariah signed the deal with EMI in April and received a £15million advance for each album. It was inked by former EMI boss Ken Berry and has been brought to an abrupt end by new recruit, Alain Levy following a year of poor sales throughout the industry. It is estimated that "Glitter" has cost EMI something in the region of £7million. (DotMusic)
