Mariah's duet partner: "It's not a song without her"

On Friday, Mariah Carey and her duet partner Miguel performed her latest hit "#Beautiful" on TV for the first time, on ABC's Good Morning America. And after that performance, Miguel said that Mariah pretty much rescued the song from the garbage heap and turned it into something, well... beautiful.

The Grammy-winning R&B singer tells ABC News Radio that "#Beautiful" was a song he had started writing for his album, but abandoned because he "couldn't finish it". But when the half-completed song was played for Mariah, she knew it could be salvaged.

"Mariah, I guess, just had so much vision and heard the song as a complete song," Miguel explains. "And we went in and we wrote that second verse together and we finished the song out." And despite the fact that Miguel sings on more of the song than Mariah does, he says, "I'm telling you, it's not a song without her. She's the one that really makes it."

He adds, "It's kind of serendipitous the way it all came about just because it was just an idea. And it fit so well for Mariah, and all the things that I love about her and we love about her music." Miguel admits to having a serious crush on Mariah back in the day - ever since he saw her in the video for her song "Honey" - but he says he wasn't intimidated recording "#Beautiful" with her because she put him at ease right away.

"What's really cool is that she makes you feel very comfortable, you know? That's very rare in this business," Miguel tells ABC News Radio. "You know, when you meet certain people, conversation doesn't happen so easily. It's not always so comfortable. She's just really good at making you feel comfortable." He says the diva is "funny and bubby," adding, "I think that makes it so much easier."

Miguel is also happy that Mariah's fans - her "lambily", as she calls them - are responding well to the song, which means he's expanding his own fan base. "What is really cool is that they love the song," he says. "And if some of them, you know, do happen to become fans of mine as well, I'm really appreciative, because I will say, they're some of the most dedicated fans I have ever met."

So, will the two singers take their act on the road together? If Mariah tours behind her upcoming album, could Miguel see himself joining her, perhaps as an opening act? After all, he's had experience: he's been opening for another Grammy-winning superstar: Alicia Keys. "Man, that would be incredible. It'd be an honor," he says of the concept of touring with Mariah. Stay tuned.
