The new Mariah Carey album is called...
The title of Mariah Carey's new album, the follow-up to 2009's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, has been prematurely released by US supermarket chain Walmart. Walmart have posted the new Mariah Carey album, The Art of Letting Go, as available for pre-order on their website, inadvertently pre-empting an official announcement from Mariah Carey and her team.
Whilst not confirmed by Mariah herself or Island Def Jam, Carey did post an image on her Instagram page, with the following message: "A much needed splash after hours pon de mic singing for my beautiful lambily. Melancholic moment of letting go of something this personal to me yet I couldn't be more excited to give three years of my soul to the fans."
The post clearly makes reference to "letting go", leading us to believe the album title is correct. The Art of Letting Go has a release date of 23 July, which was announced via Carey's Twitter page. Lead single, "#Beautiful" has performed well so far on the Billboard Hot 100, entering at #20, rising to #17 in its second week on the chart, and rising again to #15 last week.
Carey was undoubtedly hoping for a monster hit with the feel-good summer track, which also features rising R&B star, Miguel. However, given that buzz-single "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" and Oz The Great & Powerful promo single "Almost Home" failed to chart, this is a much more positive start to the album campaign. A stellar second single could perform well and give Carey the 19th number-one she longs for, likely leading to the album performing better in all territories. (So So Gay magazine)
