Mariah performs Hero in honour of Independence Day

Mariah Carey attended the Macy's July 4 celebration yesterday in honour of the US Independence day, where the singer performed her well known track Hero. The singer was in full promotion mode earlier in the week, tweeting a picture of herself in a patriotic US flag bikini. She tweeted along with the picture "Gotta be Pon de water for the Fourth of July. I can't wait for the NBC special, it's going to be festivity!"

The popstar was right as well, as she joined the NBC Fireworks Spectacular along with many other stars including Tom McGraw, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez, with America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon presenting the show. Mariah performed the legendary song after an introduction from husband Nick Cannon, but before she belted the classic, then shared with the audience: "We come together in good times and bad. Hurricane Sandy, the tornado in Oklahoma and the bombings in Boston have all tested us recently, but we continue to open our hearts and help in extraordinary ways."

The singer also performed her song #Beautiful from her fourteenth studio album The Art Of Letting Go. The former American Idol judge told the crowd: "As President Obama said earlier, today is a day to recognise what makes us proud to be Americans. This next song is a tribute to all the heroes who make us proud," before breaking into a rendition of her legendary hit Hero.
