Family and friends worried Mariah may self-destruct

Mariah's loved one are worried the superstar diva "will sabotage herself", following her split from husband Nick Cannon, a source close to the singer tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. Breakups are never easy, especially when they involve children. Nick Cannon, 33, and Mariah Carey, 44, recently announced their separation after six years of marriage, and now, family and friends are super worried about the "#Beautiful" singer, who is no stranger to self-destructive behavior.

Even though they've decided to live separately, Mariah still has a lot of love for Nick and she's seriously hurting right now. "Mariah's family and close friends are worried about her. She's a loose cannon and feels humiliated. She's too caught up with what others think of her. And she does have a past of self-destructive behavior," a source tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. "She needs professional help and tons of support right now. Her friends are worried she will sabotage herself."

Mariah's friends and family have good reason to worry about their loved one. On July 19, 2001, Mariah dropped by MTV's TRL for what would become one of the most talked about appearances in the show's 10-year history. She arrived unannounced and proceeded to strip off her shirt and pass out ice cream treats.

Soon after, on July 25, 2001, Mariah checked into a New York hospital for what was described as an "emotional and physical breakdown" brought on by exhaustion. "I'd be doing interviews all day long, getting two hours of sleep a night, if that," she explained to USA Today in 2002. "I was burning the candle at both ends and in the middle, and it caught up with me."

On a positive note, Mariah rebounded and came back stronger than ever with the release of 2005's The Emancipation of Mimi, one of her best-selling albums ever. In fact, it was the top-selling album of the year. So regardless of what happens, we're not counting Mariah out. She's a fighter and we definitely think she'll get through this - one way or another.

Right now, both Nick and Mariah have said that they're focusing on their 3-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, but we think they should consider rebuilding their relationship as well. After all, "they are both taking the split equally hard because they really loved one another and for most of the relationship, they were happy. Real happy." We think that's a relationship that's definitely worth working on!
