Mariah dropped a new single and it sounds like the 90s

It shouldn't come as a surprise that Mariah Carey's latest song - the only new track on her greatest-hits album Mariah Carey #1 To Infinity - should be dipped in nostalgia. But I'm not sure any of us were prepared for the nostalgia trip to go this far down memory lane. The song, "Infinity", dropped on iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube tonight and between the corny (like Fritos) lyrics and the breathy Carey vocal runs, we're right back in the plaid shirt-wearing, tire swing-frolicking days of yore. The new song marks a reunion between Carey and Epic CEO Antonio "L.A." Reid who helped put together best-selling album The Emancipation Of Mimi.

The compilation album and new single are part of a larger Carey comeback effort that involves a #1 To Infinity show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Though the initial video for "Infinity" involves some cheesy visuals to go with the corny lyrics (just some more of that throwback feel, we assume), Carey will eventually release a more standard video for the song directed by her longtime friend Brett Ratner. The entire Mariah Carey #1 To Infinity album featuring all 18 of Carey's number one Billboard hits drops on May 1.
