Mariah fans urge radio stations to "stop the racism"
Mariah Carey certainly has some dedicated fans. Her mega-hyped single "Infinity" has stalled on both radio and iTunes, but that hasn't stopped them from trying to help her. Some of Mariah's lambs have taken to Change.org to petition radio stations to play "Infinity".
"Mariah Carey is the most important female artist in the history of music. She needs another number one hit and despite the fact that everybody loves 'Infinity', radio stations are refusing to play the song. This is only because Mariah is a proud African-American woman who recently married and divorced an African-American man. Racism in the music industry needs to stop!"
So far, only seven people have signed the petition, but it has only been on the site for a couple of days. These types of petitions usually don't influence radio programmers, but perhaps Mariah Carey's rabid fans can help make a difference. However, some Mariah fans stress that ageism is really the issue here and it's what her lambs should concentrate on instead of the racial aspect.
Ageism has become a huge issue in the record industry lately, especially with female pop stars. Some artists such as Tina Turner, Cher and Madonna had hits after the age of 40, but that is a rarity. Mariah Carey has struggled with radio airplay since the release of "Bye Bye" in 2008, but 2009's "Obsessed" and 2013's "#Beautiful" did receive some spins. Mariah's former rival Madonna, who is now 56, recently spoke out about not getting her songs played and was quoted by the BBC. "I was like, wait a second. Shouldn't it be to do with whether you wrote a good, catchy pop song?"
Mariah Carey is getting ready to launch her Las Vegas residency. According to Fox News, Mariah made quite the entrance last week at Caesar's Palace. "The pop icon arrived to cheering screams at Caesars Palace Monday night in a classic 1936 pink convertible trailing behind 18 mobile billboards bearing the titles of her number one hits including 'Always be my baby' from 1996 and 'Heartbreaker' from 1999. The gladiator-clad men took it from there, carrying Carey through the casino on a platform fit for Cleopatra."
