Mariah Carey watches the season premiere of Empire

She's set to guest star on Fox's highly acclaimed series, Empire. And it looks like Mariah Carey just can't wait to make her big debut, as she gathered with a few A-list pals to watch the Season 2 premiere on Wednesday. "Empire kind of night. Congrats the original big daddy," the 45-year-old wrote on Instagram along with a post of herself cosying up to the likes of Empire writer, Lee Daniels - whom she congratulated, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Last month, Lee let it slip that the diva would be making an appearance this season. "Watch her on Empire you guys," Daniels revealed to a group of roaring fans according to the Associated Press. "She's coming to Empire." It is unknown when the mother-of-two will grace the screen and what her role will be, but Marisa Tomei appears to be in the first episode.

"Tonight, Cookie and Mimi meet," the 50-year-old wrote on Instagram with a snap of herself in character alongside the leading lady, Taraji P. Henson - who plays Cookie Lyon. And she had also joined the star-studded viewing party, which also included Raven-Symone and Kathy Najimy. "Viewing party Empire style, such a fun night," Marisa added with a snuggly snap of them piled on top of each other on a green couch.

Empire star Jussie Smollett previously discussed what to expect this season while chatting with People. "There will be some really painful things that happen, some deep changes. The audience has got to keep riding with us and stick with it because it's next-level. It's so exciting. I thought to myself, 'How could we top season one?' But apparently it's possible though. It's crazy. My character Jamal is certainly not the same."

The show, which revolves around a hip hop and entertainment music label, is known for including real-life musicians playing themselves into the storyline - as well as other special guests. Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys, Ludacris and Lenny Kravitz will all be making appearances next season, while Marisa has landed a recurring role, and Chris Rock will also feature.

Terrence Howard plays a father who runs a successful music business, is diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease and has to choose one of his three sons to take over when he dies.
