Mariah sabotaged?

Maybe Mariah Carey wasn't crazy after all when she attributed the failure of her "Glitter" album to her ex-husband, Sony boss Tommy Mottola. An interview by Ja Rule’s executive producer, Irv Gotti, seems to support Mariah's claims that Mottola was involved in some underhanded tactics to discredit the superstar after she divorced him and signed to Virgin Records.

Ja Rule's producer has revealed that he and the rapper were rushed by Mottola to work on some tracks for Jennifer Lopez, which the Sony boss wanted rush-released ahead of Mariah’s album, which Ja Rule also appeared on. "I get a call from Tommy Mottola, who I have a great relationship with, and he's like, 'I need you to do me a favour'." Gotti said. "'I want you to do this remix for J-Lo. I want you to put Ja on the record.' Immediately I knew what he was doing because we had just finished the Mariah record."

The executive producer goes on to say that he was instructed by Mottola to have the remix finished within 48 hours in time for Jennifer's video shoot. Allegedly, Mottola was angered by Mariah’s decision to sign with rival label Virgin, so he decided to boost the profile of Sony artist J Lo, while damaging that of his ex-wife at the same time. Two birds with one stone, if you will.

Virgin’s parent company, EMI, dropped Mariah after relatively poor sales of "Glitter".
