Mariah Carey launching tea line?

Is Mariah Carey really launching her own line of tea? She's not, but one of this week's tabloids is attempting to create a nonexistent product based on an incident that occurred during the singer's New Year's Eve performance. Gossip Cop can exclusively set the record straight.

Carey famously paused between songs on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest" to ask for tea, but her request went unanswered. "They told me there would be tea," she said. "Oh, it's a disaster. Okay, well, we'll just have to rough it. I'm going to be like everybody else, with no hot tea." The odd moment later went viral, with social media users creating memes of Carey pleading for tea.

An alleged source now tells the National Enquirer, "Mariah complaining about not getting tea is one of the biggest social media events of 2018. Everyone was talking about it. It's inspired her to start her own tea line!" But Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the singer, who exclusively assures us that the tabloid's report simply isn't true. Carey won't be coming out with her own collection of tea anytime soon.

Instead, this bogus story was seemingly concocted because the singer recently released other merchandise inspired by her New Year's Eve performance. Earlier this month, Carey started selling "tea-shirts" and mugs on her official website to poke fun at the incident. However, these novelty items aren't part of a larger business venture involving the production of actual tea, which would be much more complicated and time-consuming.

Oddly enough, this isn't the first time that the Enquirer has concocted a phony article surrounding one of the Carey's New Year's Eve performances. When the singer flubbed her set in 2016, the tabloid wrongly reported that drugs and alcohol were the cause of the botched performance. In reality, major technical difficulties interfered with Carey's set and forced her to cut it short. This latest article focusing on the tea incident from 2017's show is equally untrue.
