Mariah Carey jumps to No. 2 in the U.K.

In this last tracking week of 2018 in the U.K., up-and-coming talent Ava Max scores her first No. 1 hit with the catchy "Sweet But Psycho", which has had to wait patiently to finally claim the throne. Behind that tune, just one other non-holiday single appears inside the top 10 across the pond... meaning there's a very good chance the uppermost region will look drastically different in just a few days when the listing refreshes once again.

Back in the runner-up position (which remains its peak) is Mariah Carey's seemingly-unstoppable smash "All I Want for Christmas Is You", which rockets into the top 10 in a number of countries every time December rolls around. The song has, frustratingly, only made it to No. 2, but it has done so on more than one occasion, including 2018.

Behind Carey's history-making single, Wham's "Last Christmas" rises to No. 3 and The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl's "Fairytale of New York" also gains, lifting to No. 4. Ariana Grande's former several-week No. 1 hit "Thank U, Next" comes in at No. 5, and it is just the second (and only other) title inside the top 10 this turn that has nothing to do with the recent holiday. Supergroup Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas" is back inside the highest tier this frame, as it's up to No. 6.

New to the top 10 is Michael Bublé's "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas", which is taken from his highly-successful Christmas full-length, which itself is present inside the top 10 on the albums listing. While the song was released with the record back in 2011, it appears inside the top 10 for the first time this frame, giving the Canadian crooner his third appearance between Nos. 1 and 10 in the country.

U.K. favorite Leona Lewis sees her holiday single "One More Sleep" jump to No. 8, giving the singer her first top 10 in some time. Just behind her comes fellow standard Shakin' Stevens, whose biggest holiday-themed hit "Merry Christmas Everyone" earns yet another week close to the pinnacle by landing at No. 9.

Sir Elton John closes out the area with a new top 10 hit, though the song itself wasn't recently released. John's holiday carol "Step Into Christmas" finally breaks into the coveted region, placing at No. 10 for the first time. "Step Into Christmas", which was first released in 1973, is John's thirty-first top 10 hit in his home country.
