Janet speaks about Mariah's illness

Janet Jackson, who's in the middle of her multimillion dollar All For You World Tour and who's new single "Someone To Call My Lover" is the 4th most played song on Australian radio, spoke out yesterday regarding Mariah Carey's mental illness at a press conference. Carey, who is working under Virgin Records along with Janet, is being paid over $40 million per album, more than Janet's contract at $35 million per record.

As reported yesterday, Mariah was admitted to hospital last week due to "extreme exhaustion" and is under psychiatric care. This has sparked a media uproar, with Mariah appearing on front covers of newspapers and magazines worldwide. Janet showed plenty of sympathy in her comments about Mariah; "All she wanted was some time off, just to be herself and rest. Now she has to pay the price... She doesn't deserve it, and to some extent I can relate to it because in 1996, I was in a bad place and leading into my depression. No one knows what's happening behind the scenes. The people can only see what's presented to them."

Janet refused to comment about an inside story which leaked out of Virgin Records late last week, that the two superstars would collaborate on a project for Janet's 4th single off her "All For You" offering. Insiders claimed that Janet was to work with Mariah on an Arabian remix of the catchy dance track "Come On Get Up". But with Mariah's risky health and Janet's full schedule, one would wonder if such a project is possible.

Janet ended the interview with a message that clearly puts all the rumours of a rivalry to rest; "Mariah, I, from the bottom of my heart wish you a safe and full recovery. Millions of people around the world are praying for you and we all know in our hearts that you're gonna be back and stronger than ever. God Bless".

Janet Jackson's "Someone To Call My Lover" is in stores now. Mariah's "Glitter" soundtrack will be released on August 20, in the mean time, "Loverboy" is out now.
