Through The Rain cancelled

Today there is sad news for Mariah fans from the USA. Mariah's new single, Through The Rain, will not be released in their country. Trans World Entertainment and FYE have confirmed this news. The reason why is not given. According to MariahBuzz, one of the reasons might be the lacking airplay. On Z100 the single drops from number 21 to 30. Z100 covers New York, one of the biggest markets, and the size of the market plays a huge role in airplay "points" given by R&R and Billboard towards songs. At this moment, a commercial 12" vinyl single might still be released.

In other countries the release will take place as planned. Universal Australia has confirmed that everything is on track for the Australia realease of the single and that they will start shipping to stores next Tuesday. It will be released in two formats exclusive to Australia. Each format contains four tracks and will come with a set of two collectable postcards. In the UK, there will also be two different formats. The enhanced version will contain the video of Through The Rain.

Weeks before the debut on 25 websites on Thursday September 26, 2002, the rough version of the song was played by Z100. "Through the rain" has been described as not just another ballad but a lyrical masterpiece delivered to perfection. Earlier this week, Lyor Cohen, chairman of Island Def Jam Chairman, revealed his promotion strategy: "I did not want to do the typical record company fake artificial radio boogie on this because Mariah is in a different place in her life. I chose an entirely different method and that is to let this record go out without a video, take its time and slowly and methodically penetrate and gain traction. Then we'll put the video out. Then we'll do Oprah and then the Today show. And at that time is when this record should be judged."
