Mariah: "I want to be me"
Mariah Carey confessed she was buckling under the pressure of being an international superstar
weeks before she checked into hospital, dotmusic can report. Carey, who admitted herself on July
25 citing "extreme exhaustion", has now cancelled plans to headline "MTV20: Live and Almost
Legal", the channel's 20th anniversary concert.
Her physical and mental condition is thought to have been prompted by excessive work, in the
completion of two movies "Glitter" and "Wise Girls" and the recording of the "Glitter" soundtrack.
Carey posted a statement recently on her official website, which has now been removed, admitting
she needed time to herself to "just be me". "I'm trying to understand things in life right now
and so I really don't feel that I should be doing music now," she explained. "What I'd like to
do is just take a little break or at least get one night of sleep without someone popping up
about a video or a thing where all I really want to do is just be me."
