Pop star Mariah Carey checks out of hospital
Pop singer Mariah Carey has checked out of the hospital where she was recovering after suffering
a nervous breakdown two weeks ago, her spokeswoman said Wednesday. Carey, 31, one of the most
successful woman solo singers with more than a dozen No. 1 singles, was admitted to a New
York-area hospital July 25. Her spokeswoman Cindi Berger said Carey had an "emotional and physical
breakdown".
In a statement Wednesday announcing the star's discharge from the hospital, Berger said: "Mariah
is feeling better. She is resting under a doctor's care at an undisclosed location with her
mother." Carey canceled all public appearances after her breakdown, including her headline role
at the Aug. 1 show celebrating the 20th anniversary of MTV.
In recent months, Carey filmed two movies, "Glitter" and "Wise Girls". She also wrote, recorded
and produced her newest album, the soundtrack to "Glitter," which is due for release on Aug. 21.
Carey's single "Loverboy" hit the number one slot on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop singles chart
and number two on its Hot 100 after 180,000 singles were sold in its first week of retail release.
