Mariah's family fears for her sanity
Mariah Carey is cracking up and her brother Morgan is picking up the pieces. Before Mariah
was taken away for psychiatric treatment, she was babbling rubbish and throwing crockery
around a Manhattan hotel suite in the presence of Morgan, 40.
Beautiful Carey, who has enjoyed a lengthy and highly successful career due to her stunning
eight-octave range, shouted, "I want to be alone" and "I want to go where the rainbows are"
as she hurled plated against a wall.
Morgan says, "She basically lost it and started throwing plates. She just broke down and
started causing a major ruckus. She somehow cut her arm with the broken crockery and kept
saying weird things. She was distraught."
Morgan puts the split down to Mariah's exhausting schedule, and her decision to break up
with longtime boyfriend Luis Miguel. He adds, "It seemed everything was caving in on her
- with two movies back to back, lack of food and sleep, and the breakup with Luis which
troubled her deeply."
Meanwhile her ex-husband Tommy Mottola is angry that people have cited him as responsible
for her recent mental breakdown. A private investigator hired by Mariah to find the source
of a range of negative stories about her says his search led to former husband and Sony
Records boss. But Mottola says he is "deeply saddened" by Mariah's illness and remains
"completely supportive."
Aides deny she tried to slit her wrists after breaking up with Latin singer Luis Miguel,
with whom she had shared a three year romance. After enjoying a three-year relationship,
Louis left Mariah after she struck up a friendship with rapper Eminem, leading towards her
alleged suicide attempt.
Spokeswoman Cindi Berger says, "He has been calling her frequently, and as often as he can
he will visit her. He knows it is serious, but not grave, and that it is necessary for her
to get her rest. A lot of people don't understand that she's a human being, and she gets sick
like everyone else. Mariah was completely worn out, physically and emotionally. She is under
doctor's care and receiving medication. She must get complete rest for at least the next t
hree weeks."
