Mariah soundtrack delayed
The release of the soundtrack to Mariah Carey's new film has been delayed to allow her time
to rest after being treated for exhaustion. The singer has been just been released from the
clinic where she stayed for two weeks following a breakdown.
Her film Glitter, in which she takes the lead role, has already been postponed until 21 September.
The soundtrack has now also been pushed back from 21 August to 11 September. Publishers Virgin
said the delay was designed to allow Carey to promote both the film and disc.
Glitter marks Carey's first starring role. She plays an aspiring pop singer and is also one of
the film's producers. Nancy Berry, vice president of Virgin Music Group Worldwide, said: "Mariah is
looking forward to being able to participate in both her album and movie projects, and we are hopeful that this new soundtrack release date will allow
her to do so." She added: "She has been making great recovery progress, and continues to grow
stronger every day."
There were rumours circulating that Carey had made a suicide attempt but this was strenuously
denied by her publicist. Her spokesman Cyndi Berger said she had suffered an "emotional and physical
breakdown" which was put down to work pressures. The 31-year-old was released from an undisclosed
hospital on Tuesday.
The Grammy-award winner cancelled all public appearances, including a performance at the MTV
20th anniversary celebrations in New York. Carey was the biggest-selling artist of the 90s and
is best known for hits I'll Be There, Without You, Fantasy and Heartbreaker.
