Mariah Carey album delayed till September
Following a decision to delay the release of Mariah Carey's upcoming movie due to the singer's
"emotional breakdown", Virgin Music has decided to push back the film's soundtrack, as well.
Carey's first album for the label, "Glitter", was originally scheduled to hit stores on Aug. 21.
It will now be released three weeks later, on Sept. 11. The movie of the same name will follow
on Sept. 21.
Carey entered a New York-area hospital two weeks ago after suffering what her spokesperson
described as an "emotional and physical breakdown". She checked herself out of the facility
this week and "is feeling better", according to a statement released Wednesday. "She is resting
under a doctor's care at an undisclosed location with her mother."
Meanwhile, Virgin vice chairman Nancy Berry said "Mariah is looking forward to being able to
participate in both her album and movie projects, and we are hopeful that this new soundtrack
release date will allow her to do so. She has been making great recovery progress, and continues
to grow stronger every day."
The "Glitter" album features the current single, "Loverboy", along with "Don't Stop (Funkin'
4 Jamaica)" (featuring Mystikal); "If We" (featuring Nate Dogg and Ja Rule); "I Didn't Mean To
Turn You On" (featuring the original's writers/producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis); and a
dancefloor-filling cover of "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" (featuring Busta Rhymes and DJ Clue).
Carey's next single will be a ballad, "Never Too Far".
