Mariah Carey agrees to first post-breakdown interview

Grammy-winning pop singer Mariah Carey will grant her first interview since suffering a nervous breakdown to ABC-TV's Barbara Walters for its "20/20" news program, a spokesman for the network said on Wednesday. Carey, who has largely been out of the public eye since suffering what publicists called an "emotional and physical breakdown" in July, will tape an interview with Walters to air on the program on Sept. 12. The publicist said the Carey, 31, whose new album "Glitter" is due in stores on September 11, will "obviously discuss the reasons behind her hospitalisation" among other things.

"Glitter" is the soundtrack for an upcoming film of the same name that stars Carey - who has sold more than 150 million albums and singles - as an aspiring young singer. Release dates for both the movie, which features Carey's first starring role, and the album were pushed back after she checked into a clinic for treatment for the breakdown.
