Mariah Carey remembers her labelmate
It's now three days after the death of R&B star Aaliyah in the Bahamas after a tragic plane
crash and authorities are now trying to piece together the puzzle as to what caused the
accident. The Bahamas Government has bought in officials from National Transportation Safety
Board to help investigate the accident. A four person team comprising of a representative from
the NTSB, the Federal Aviation Administration, Cessna Aircraft Co. and Continental Motors,
the engine manufacture.
The Cessna carrying Aaliyah, the pilot and 7 other passengers crashed just 200 feet from the
runway after takeoff from the Marsh Harbor Airport. One of the aircraft's engines failed immediately
upon takeoff but Cessna say that the aircraft is designed to travel on one engine in case of
emergency. The plane exploded and was engulfed in flame, killing the singer instantly. One
survivor died in a Miami hospital 21 hours later.
An employee from the airport said there was a loud argument between the pilot and passengers
before take-off over excess luggage. Baggage handlers reported that the plane was indeed
overloaded and that the passengers insisted that their equipment and belongs stay on board.
Aaliyah was in The Bahamas making a video for her next single "Rock The Boat". Virgin Records
labelmate Mariah Carey "hey, as I said in my earlier message, life is really, really precious
and I just want to send out my deepest sympathy and love to Aaliyah and her family. It's the
most important thing, life and appreciating it. Bye bye."
