Upcoming

Due the tragedy at New York City's World Trade Center, most movies previously scheduled to open Sept. 21 have been pushed back, some due to thematic content. Big Trouble, the adaptation of Dave Barry's comic novel about a bomb threat at a Miami airport is understandably put on hold. The same can be said of Sidewalks of New York, which was to have featured scenes shot near the World Trade Center.

Denzel Washington's upcoming cop drama Training Day is also deleted from this slot, as its violent content caused the studio to balk at releasing it so soon after the disaster. So audiences will have but one new film to go see, Mariah Carey's acting debut, which itself has seen its share of controversy. After all, Mariah is still recovering from her nervous breakdown and has been in and out of a psychiatric hospital.

All this brouhaha has completely overshadowed the film itself - Glitter is a seemingly autobiographical tale showcasing Mariah's vocal chops and her rise to the top of the charts from humble beginnings. The R&B singer's first big-screen appearance isn't much of a stretch, as she plays a, you guessed it, R&B singer struggling to catch a break until she's heard wailing at an open-mic in a dance club.

Many thanks to Mariah Buzz.
