Mariah: From high school to Hollywood
Style then: Frizzy, poofy-haired diva-to-be. Mariah Carey is from Long Island and when she was 18, she had the mile-high hair to prove it. "Just because a particular look is in style, it doesn't mean it's the right one for you," says Fetman, of Mariah's '80s perm. And the now-diva even worked in a hair salon, cleaning up and washing hair. You'd think she would have had enough fashion sense back then to stay away from the hairspray. But at least she has learned from her mistakes. Style now: Glamorous, fashion risk-taker. Now Mariah, 33, has long, beautifully highlighted hair, usually stepping out with soft curls. And her fashion has matured, too. She favors a sleek, sophisticated look, strolling the red carpet and attending awards shows in tasteful, well-fitting gorgeous gowns - a long way from '80s Long Island. She even wears pearls! And don't forget Mariah made fashion history, setting a worldwide trend in 2000, with the jeans with the ripped wait torn off.
