Mariah slated for Miami's urban beach week

Even by Miami Beach standards, SoBe will be a hopping place this weekend. Urban Beach Week kicks off with a slew of hip-hop, R&B and reggae music events headlined or hosted by some of the biggest names in music and sports. Among the celebs slated for the parties: OutKast, Mariah Carey, R Kelly, Fat Joe, Lil' Kim, Goodie Mob, Missy Elliott, P. Diddy, Wyclef Jean, Allen Iverson, Mike Tyson and the Cash Money Crew.

"It'll be like your favorite music video," said Terrance Smith, founder of www.blackbeachweek.com, one of several websites promoting the events. "It's a giant fantasy that surrounds Miami, and a lot of people want to get that flavor and what it feels like. That whole party sensation, that's why they're flocking here."

At least 200,000 partyers are expected to visit Miami Beach for four days of nonstop dancing, drinking, suntanning and stargazing. Dozens of nightclubs are hosting special parties that will cater to hip-hop fans. The evolution of Black Beach Week, as some call it, is something of a phenomenon birthed on Internet chat rooms, e-mail lists, websites and urban radio.
