"Through the rain" reached number 9 in December 2002, and before that, Mariah already had many hits. "Heartbreaker" with Jay-Z was the biggest of the last 4 years and reached number 7. To look for a top 4 hit, we have to go back to the beginning of 1999, when "When you believe", sung with her rival Whitney Houston, reached number 4. This week, "I know what you want", the single of Busta Rhymes featuring Mariah Carey and The Flipmode Squad, jumps to number 4 coming from number 10. This is her fifth number 4 hit in the Netherlands.
Why is "I know what you want" such a huge hit? One of the reasons is that it is a new song. It isn't on the album "Charmbracelet" yet, which already sold over 1 million copies in the USA. And to sell the album even better, a new version will be released, one with 4 new songs including "I know what you want". Another reason for this success could be Busta Rhymes. He moves in other regions than Mariah does, and maybe this will give her a new market.
This has to show during her Charmbracelet World Tour which start on June 21 in Seoul, South-Korea. This is her biggest tour in three years and brings Mariah to the Netherlands for the first time in 7.5 years. On October 8, Mariah will do a concert in Ahoy Rotterdam. (MegaMan)
