Jasmine's juice
OK, so I've had lots of lovely pampering, facials, massages and loving, I'm back
on track to give you more tittle-tattle from the Usher/Alicia week, which culminated
in a joint party in Shepherd's Bush, west London. We rolled up at the Hammersmith
Apollo to catch Ms Keys and the outside was eerily quiet - everyone had already taken
their seats in the sold-out venue in high anticipation. Keys, accompanied by a live
band, strutted down the central staircase in full dominatrix get-up. Dressed in her
trademark trilby cap, high black leather riding boots, white strides and black and
white corset and jacket, the message was blatantly: "I'm sexy."
There are-so many great things to say about Alicia that it's hard to be critical about
anything. But if I had to mention one gripe, some of us thought her look was too severe -
it made her look too bottom-heavy and shortened her legs, while her corset kept riding
off her bra as it wasn't attached. But who cares what I think? All the guys I know
confirmed the look was working for them and, after all, we were there for her songs,
not her fashion sense.
As well as wowing us with her untouchable music, she attempted
some sexy dance routines and even went as far as trying to writhe sexily on top of the
piano. Big mistake. We love and respect Alicia for being good at what she does, but it
was as if a record label person had thought, "right, she's a great musician, now if we
can only get her dancing we can get her to outdo Beyoncé". Not a good look. Trying to
do the sexy thing - especially the solo dance routines, shaking her breasts - made her
look awkward and uncomfortable and she didn't need to go there. Her musical performance
alone was off the heezy - great vocals, passion and style.
She looked much sweeter at her after-party, which was a lovely, classy affair. Not too
crowded, just right. She was joined by Usher, his mum and all his dancers, BMG's Matt
Ross and Mervyn Lyn, who were holding court, super stylist Karen Binn, Jack and Kelly
Osbourne, Kelly Brook, The Chubby Kidz, June Sarpong, Choice FM's George Kay, Caroline
Chikezie, and the cute Asian actor from the James Bond movie Die Another Day, Rick Yune.
Trying to get into the tiny VIP area and failing were Girls Aloud, Blue's Simon Webbe
with his regulation page 3-looking hoochie in tow, Atomic Kitten and Callum Best.
But it wasn't that kinda party where you needed to be in the VIP room - it was just cool,
chilled out and you could see everything gwanning everywhere. A great double-whammy week
for BMG, with two rocking gigs and a classy after-party - love you guys. Diddy obviously
taught y'all something 'bout how to throw a party before you kicked his ass to the kerb.
Speaking of partying, I'm off to re-energise my A-list, top-notch, jet-set, diva
lifestyle at Sir Richard Branson's Necker island - I've been invited to film an MTV
Cribs show at his home. Being the polite young lady that my mum brought me up to be,
I thought I'd better not turn up without a gift, so I took... Mariah Carey. I figured
what with it being Independence Day and Mariah loving to spend time on tropical islands,
we should buck up and kill three birds with one stone. Richard Branson would meet Mariah,
Mariah would get a free party on an exclusive island with her mates, and I would get to
mix bizness with pleasure and top up my tan. So I'll catch you rain-dwelling Brits on
the other side. First-class everything, palm trees and butlers to do my every bidding -
Necker island here I come.
