Mariah mania in Manilla

Filipino fans got one good raison d'Ítre in spending more time in front of their TV sets this time as Mariah Carey's songs are presently re-becoming a proverbial tune specifically on every, if not all, local musical variety show in the Philippines.
In fact earlier today, 3 Mariah hits have been once again showcased on ASAP Mania during their "Divas" segment. Led by Philippines' premiere performer Gary Valenciano, the segment fired up with his performance of Whenever You Call which later shared on stage by local divas Zsa-Zsa Padilla and Anna Fegi. It was then followed with the song One Sweet Day, which Gary V. collaborated with the two new finalists from "Born Diva", ABS-CBN's newest reality-based singing contest. The segment ended with the group's rendition of Mariah Carey's 15th No.1 hit and a certified-Filipino favorite Thank God I Found You. ASAP can be seen worldwide through the Filipino Channel.
In an assessment, this trend of top local performers doing Mariah Carey songs on national TV is vastly an important thing for all Filipino fans and alike. Its enormous (free) promotion being given to Mariah Carey is very satisfactory and of great help especially that the release of her new album is just around the corner. Lets just hope that this trend on Philippine TV will continue for as long as it can be and inspire more artists to do the same.

Do you know this song, LC (46,580) by Dionne005 from USA

Your statement is weird. I love it when Mariah does that. And no I don't know all the songs. Also I'm a big Michael Jackson fan and I don't know all his songs. Even Michael Jackson ask do you remember this one when he takes it back to the J5 era. People here need to calm down. Also I don't know if I said this but I think it's adorable when Mariah s... read more

Thanks for getting what I mean PJW, and I never really thought about it that way, so that's a good point. And MimiLamb, what I really mean is that I have never seen an artist of her stature ask something like that. You would rarely or never hear Whitney, Celine, Michael, Madonna or Janet ever ask that during their concerts. Those are people on Mari... read more

More on "Do you know this song?" (46,578) by PJW from The U.K.

What I meant to write in the last post (but forgot) was that I view Mariah's "do you know this song" thing in the same vein as the onstage diva antics. Or one time it really didn't connect for me was when she performed "Just be good to me" and she does that. "C'mon, everybody get up - get up - and you. Get up." Really, it's all banter to keep the c... read more
