Is the "Crystal ball" shattered?

Kurt Loder: Singer Mariah Carey held an inpromptu press conference the other day to settle rumors and issues surrounding the elusive duet track that was to be recorded on Sept. 1st with recording artist Lauryn Hill. Here's a clip from the conference:

Reporter: What really occured the day that was slated for the recording of "Crystal Ball"?

Mariah: I informed Ruffhouse that I would not be in attendance on the date of recording if they continued to be unwilling to compromise on the release of the track. After that last contact, Ruffhouse made no attempt to compromise or contact me in any form to confirm any sort of contract revisal therefore I did not attend the session for the song.

Reporter: Well don't you think that was unfair to Ms. Hill that you would decide something so harsh and not inform her when she is a crucial, but neutral, player in the situation.

Mariah: I personally tried to contact her the day before. I tried to contact both her and her management team so that she would be aware of my decision and we could come to a mutual consent to cancel and possibly reschedule the recording session. I received no answer to each attempt but I did leave a message with her Public Relations Manager. Whether she got it or not, that's out of my hands.

Reporter: Do you believe that you and Ms. Hill will be able to get together now that Ruffhouse has dropped their claims and do the song?

Mariah: I certainly hope so... I certainly hope so. If not, then hopefully we'll be able to get together and do the song for my up-coming movie soundtrack.

Reporter: But Ms. Hill has already released statements that because she was "left hanging" so to say, on Sept. 1st, she feels less-inclined to do any sort of future project with you. She went on to say that she has other priorities to attend to and refuses to follow your schedule for things.

Mariah: Well... I believe that alot of things were blown out of proportion during much of this dispute, and she probably received 2nd hand information and inaccurate messages from me because we both had to communicate through management teams and label executives which gave plenty of room for much to be miscommunicated. I believe that she may be in the mind-set that I did this intentionally to spite her in some way and that is false. I respect Ms. Hill as an artist and I know how this business works. If you're not careful, the media can come between a collaboration, especially when you have two incredibly public icons collaborating such as her and myself. I still have faith in the song and in the idea that both her and I can make it happen.

Kurt Loder: The track, titled "Crystal Ball," is still on the roster to be released with the other completed songs on Mariah's upcoming album, Rainbow. But only time will tell as to whether it makes the cut.
