Mariah storms back

Mimi gives Carey the best first-week sales of her career. Mariah Carey's new album, The Emancipation of Mimi, sold more than 600,000 copies in its first two weeks and has already yielded a pair of hit singles: the spunky It's Like That and the poignant We Belong Together both produced by Jermain Dupri.

According to her longtime friend Dupri, the studio sessions were very relaxed, with lots of laughing, joking and Carey writing lyrics on the fly. said Carey. Kanye West and the Neptunes added some production flash, the latter's Say Somethin' featuring Snoop Dogg and Carey getting flirtatious, will soon hit the airwaves. We'll be working this record months from now, says Island Def Jam Chairman LA Reid. There's a sense of vindication. People had written Mariah Carey off, how foolish of them.
