Knocking at the door of #1

That's where Mariah is this week as "We Belong Together" makes its first bold move for the #1 spot. Gwen Stefani is the only person standing in her way now and Mariah has her work cut out for her as Stefani leads Mariah in digital sales by about 39,000 units. Though Mariah leads Gwen in airplay by about 32 million impressions, it is not enough to overcome the difference in digital sales resulting in a #1 placing for Gwen and #2 placing for Mariah. This #2 placing is the highest Mariah has reached on the Hot 100 since "Loverboy" reached this position in the summer of 2001.

While Mariah may not have reached #1 on the Hot 100 just yet, she does capture the #1 spot on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. "We Belong Together" becomes Mariah's 11th #1 title on this chart and her first since "One Sweet Day" which spent an incredible 13 weeks at #1 on this chart. On the R&B songs chart Mariah reaches #2, her highest peak since "I Know What You Want" in 2003. Standing in her way is Bobby Valentino with "Slow Down". And on the Pop 100 Mariah earns her first top ten on this new chart with a 16-9 move.

"The Emancipation Of Mimi" drops one spot to #3 to make room for debuts by Dave Matthews Band (#1) and Weezer (#2). On the R&B album chart Mariah maintains her #1 placing fending off a 3-2 bulleted move by former #1, Mike Jones. Back on the Billboard 200, the soundtrack to the latest (and last) Star Wars movie plummets from #6 to #25. Expect the album to rebound on the next chart and perhaps even re-enter the top ten following all of the hype of the theatrical release of "Revenge of the Sith".
