Carey to be honored

After 15 years of prevailing as the reigning queen of the airwaves, Mariah Carey has reached a new peak of phenomenon. She is at an all time high with her 10th studio release, The Emancipation of Mimi and with so many record breaking numbers, the fans have picked one night to thank, celebrate and acknowledge one of our generation's brightest and most successful artists.

Mariah has always been praised by countless awards shows, but on August 6, 2005 New York City's Gerald W. Lynch Theatre will bear witness to a humanitarian with a heart as big as her catalogue of hits. The Fresh Air Fund will honor Carey's past and present contributions and will present her with the Humanitarian of the Year award as well as a special award, appropriately titled, Mimi's Reign given to Carey by her fans for the outstanding presence she has had in the music world and community.

The New York Times and Washington Post have been invited to witness the accomplishments, as well as record executives that will join the fans all hoping for a surprise appearance by Mimi, herself. It is a night full of live music, revisiting Carey's past hits, most inspiring tracks and future hit singles, all performed by none other than the people who know her best, the fans. After months of searching, the fans with voices and an ear for music were chosen to represent the ultimate diva.

The show will run as a production, with set and costume changes, a flowing set list, and if you listen hard enough; Carey's own story of struggle and prevalence will be told. A portion of the ticket sales will benefit The Fresh Air Fund, which Carey has helped throughout the years. If one night was meant to be Mariah's, August 6th has her name all over it.
