Mariah still no. 1 as "Idols" fade
Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" is No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 for a second week in a row, and a sixth overall. The cut also returns to No. 1 on the Pop 100 chart, replacing Bo Bice's version of "Inside Your Heaven", and posts a seventh week at the summit of the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally.
Bice, this season's "American Idol" runner-up, spent one week on top of the Pop 100, where his single falls to No. 7 this week. On the Hot 100, "Inside" drops 2-5, one spot behind "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood's take on the song, which falls 3-4. On the Pop 100, Underwood's slips 3-6.
Regaining ground on both tallies are current singles from Gwen Stefani and the Black Eyed Peas. Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" rebounds 4-2 on the Hot 100 and 5-3 on the Pop 100, as well as moving 2-1 on the Hot Digital Songs list. She also adds another title to the Hot 100 this week with "Cool", the fourth single from her Interscope solo debut, "Love, Angel, Music, Baby", at No. 86.
The Peas' "Don't Phunk With My Heart" gains 4-2 on the Pop 100 and 5-3 on the Hot 100. It trades places with Stefani on the Hot Digital Songs chart, dropping 1-2, but retains its bullet because of continued growth. Rihanna's "Pon de Replay", which advances 13-9 on the Hot 100, is the chart's greatest airplay gainer; Missy Elliott's "Lose Control" featuring Ciara and Fat Man Scoop, which jumps 14-10, is the fastest-growing track at retail.
The top debut on both the Hot 100 and the Pop 100 this week is Jessica Simpson's version of "These Boots Were Made For Walkin' ", a tune originally popularized by Nancy Sinatra. The cut, which stems from the forthcoming Columbia "Dukes of Hazzard" film soundtrack, is new to the Pop 100 at No. 24 and the Hot 100 at No. 33, and bows at No. 8 on the Hot Digital Songs chart.
Also new to the Hot 100 this week are Bobby Valentino's "Tell Me" (No. 85), Tim McGraw's "Do You Want Fries With That" (No. 90), Van Zant's "Help Somebody" (No. 91), Ying Yang Twins' "Badd" featuring Mike Jones and Mr. ColliPark (No. 92), Jason Mraz' "Wordplay" (No. 96), Rob Thomas' "This Is How a Heart Breaks" (No. 98) and Jermaine Dupri's "Gotta Getcha" (No. 100).
Among the cuts taking notable leaps on the Hot 100 are Mike Jones' "Back Then" (48-39), Lil' Rob's "Summer Nights" (73-59), Natasha Bedingfield's "These Words" (77-60), SheDaisy's "Don't Worry 'Bout a Thing" (83-67), R. Kelly's "Playa's Only" featuring the Game (90-73) and Sara Evans' "A Real Fine Place to Start" (99-80).
50 Cent's "Just a Lil' Bit" is No. 1 for a second consecutive week on the Hot Ringtones chart, while Rascal Flatts' "Fast Cars and Freedom" is No. 1 for a third on Billboard's Hot Country Songs list. Seether's "Remedy" leads the Mainstream Rock airplay list for a fourth week and Foo Fighters' "Best of You" is in front of the Modern Rock airplay chart for a second.
On the Adult Contemporary airplay roundup, Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" refuses to budge, holding onto the No. 1 post for a 19th straight week, while Shakira is No. 1 for a sixth non-consecutive week on the Hot Latin Songs chart with "La Tortura" featuring Alejandro Sanz. (Billboard)
