"Merry Christmas": The best in a crowded genre
After being hard to find for a number of years, Mariah Carey's great 1994 Christmas album is available all over the place. It is one of the very best of a crowded genre. Speaking of Mariah, I was speeding through the TV channels the other day, on my way to PBS's "The Virgin Queen". I passed MTV, and there was Mariah, trilling away, all cleavage and big hair and microskirts. And because this is a video (so it doesn't have to make sense) she is also filmed in a swimming pool, acting out her idol Marilyn Monroe's fabled nude swim scene.
I didn't stick with MTV because soon somebody was rapping about bling, but I was amused by Mariah's romp. She certainly hasn't taken anybody's advice on dressing more conservatively. (Liz Smith - New York Post)
