Bice challenges, but Eminem remains No. 1
The Eminem retrospective "Curtain Call" (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) begins a second week at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 thanks to sales of 323,700 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album has already moved more than 765,000 copies in its two frames on the chart.
Fourth season "American Idol" runner-up Bo Bice notches an impressive No. 4 debut with "The Real Thing" (RCA), which sold 227,000 copies. The artist joins this year's Idol winner Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" (5-2; 271,000) and inaugural "AI" champion Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" (11-8, 180,000) inside the top 10 this week.
In its seventh week on the chart, the "Now 20" hits compilation from BMG/Zomba/EMI/UME climbs 4-3 on a 30% sales increase to 259,000 units. Kenny Chesney's "The Road and the Radio" (BNA) is up 6-5 with a 29% increase to 217,500 copies, while Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" (Roadrunner) also jumps one slot, 7-6, on a 26% sales increase to 192,000 copies.
The top 10 of The Billboard 200 is rounded out by Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" (Island Def Jam), up 8-7 on a 26% jump to 191,000 and the Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business" (A&M/Interscope), which holds at No. 9 on a 9.8% boost to 157,600. Johnny Cash's "The Legend of Johnny Cash" (Legacy/Columbia/American/Island) enjoys a 12-10 promotion thanks to a nearly 50% increase in sales to 154,000 units.
Ludacris and DTP's "Disturbing Tha Peace" (Def Jam) debuts at No. 11 on the big chart and at No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums on sales of 151,000 copies. The crew's 2002 effort, "Golden Grain", opened higher No. 6 on The Billboard 200 with sales of 95,000 copies. Neo-soul man Anthony Hamilton lands at No. 19 on The Billboard 200 and No. 4 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with "Ain't Nobody Worryin' ", (So So Def/Zomba), moving 112,000 in his best sales week ever. This marks the proper follow-up to his debut release "Comin' From Where I'm From" which has sold 1.2 million units to date.
Meanwhile, reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee achieves his best sales week as "Barrio Fino en Directo" lands at No. 24 on The Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Top Latin Albums with 100,300 units. The CD/DVD is the artist's fourth album to reach both charts this year, following "Barrio Fino", "Ahora Le Toca Al Cangri! Live" and "Los Homerun-Es".
The other notable debuts this week come from Disney's soundtrack to "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" at No. 43 and YoungBloodz's "Ev'rybody Know Me" (LaFace/Jive) at No. 44. The latter set also bows at No. 7 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 4 on the Top Rap Albums tally.
CD sales were up by 28.8% from last week at 19.2 million units, but down 11% compared to the same week a year ago. (Billboard)
