Mariah Carey sued by songwriting duo

Pop diva Mariah Carey is being sued by two American songwriters who are claiming that her song "Thank God I Found You" borrows heavily from one of theirs. A US web site has reported that Seth Swirsky and Warryn Campbell have filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the singer, her record label Columbia and the infamous producer Terry Lewis.

The songwriting duo have alleged that the song, taken from last year's album "Rainbow", ripped off a track called "One Of Those Love Songs". This was recorded by Xscape and is taken from the long-player "Traces Of My Lipstick", which they sold to SoSo Def Recordings through EMI in 1998.

The producer of the Xscape album, Jermaine Dupri, also contributed to Carey's "Rainbow" and both records were released on Columbia and were mastered by Bob Ludwig. Swirsky and Campbell have filed a list of objections, which include copyright infringement, false designation of origin, unfair competition and unjust enrichment.
