Interview on MTV

John Norris: And here's a lady that 98 Degrees is very familiar with... Mariah Carey, in fact. As you guys are certainly aware of, she has been talking about it for several years now but Mariah Carey's dream of a movie called "All That Glitters" is finally a reality. Mariah has been shooting the movie in Toronto for a couple of months and now the filming has moved to New York and we caught up with Mariah last night for a set visit on the streets of Trybecka.

We've all seen her music video portrails of the danzle and distress and the alter ego bitch, but Mariah Carey's graduation to big screen leading lady is finally happening! MC is close to wrapping "All That Glitters", a love story set in, what else, the 80's!

Mariah Carey: A lot of people at first were like, "the 80's? That's too close to now, no one's estallishing about that" and I'm like, "Yes they are!" Ya know, so now it's taking in everything now that was in the 80's, like fashion wise and stuff. People that are thinking that I have been jumping on the bandwagaon, I had this freaking idea years ago!

John Norris: In her long awaited star turn, Mariah plays an inspiring young singer from New York, falling for the man who gives her her big break! Although she assures us that any similarity to the film and her real life are purely coincidental!

Mariah CareyTotally not an autobiographical movie at all, people are writing that "Ya know, it's just obviously a story based on her life". It's not based on my life!

John Norris: Of course Mariah is not the first pop music diva to make the transition to movies. Cher, Whitney, Courtney, and Madonna have all made the moves with varying degrees of success. So is Mariah "the musician" concerned about how Mariah "the actress" will be received?

Mariah Carey: I can not think like, "Oh what are the critics going to say" or what are, ya know, what are bitter people going to say. I really cant focus on that especially when I'm trying to give a good performance!

John Norris: All That Glitters" also stars Matt Beasley, R&B singer Eric Benet, and Mariah's pal rapper Da Brat. It should be in theatres next Spring and we are going to have more from our exclusive set visit with Mariah on Monday's TRL.

Carson Daly: Very good John, is there any word on how she is doing on it?

John Norris: Oh, She's having a good time! I haven't heard any reviews from the set or anything, but she seems to be enjoying herself!

Carson Daly: Okay thanks, we will keep an eye out on that!
