Mariah, Westlife and Madonna - still No.1

Mariah Carey and Westlife are at the top of the singles chart for the second week running with "Against All Odds", with no appreciable competition from Spice Girl Melanie B's latest, the vitriolic "Tell Me", (from her forthcoming "Hot" album) which entered at four, below the highest new entry, "Body Groove", from Architechs feat. Nanahave which debuted at three, leaving Zombie Nation's "Kernkraft 400" still at two. There was one other new entry into the top ten - "Ain't No Stoppin' Us" (DJ Luck & MC Neat feat. JJ).

Further down the chart, Roni Size/Reprazent come in at 17 with "Who Told You?", Placebo just make it into the top twenty with "Slave to the Wage", whilst Beautiful South's latest single, "Closer Than Most", from their new album ("Painting it Red", released next week) reached a mere 22. "Least Breathtaking Entry" of the week title goes to No Doubt's "Simple Kind Of Life" which entered at 69. The band's frontlady, Gwen Stefani, duets with Moby on his forthcoming single, released this month, "South Side", mixed by Beck producers, Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf. This is the third single from Moby's "Play", which still sits in the album chart, at nine, after 45 weeks on the shelves.

Talking of the album chart, Madonna, whose "Music" is currently at the top of 23 charts throughout the world, is still at the top of ours for the second week, denying Kylie Minogue a number one debut with her "comeback" album "Light Years", which enters at two. Kylie, who performed at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics at the weekend, releases a new single, "On A Night Like This", next month and is set to perform live at the opening ceremony of the Paralympics on the 18th October.

There were two further new entries in the top ten - Mark Knopfler's second solo outing, "Sailing To Philadelphia", at four and Gomez, who just made the grade, at ten, with their new collection, "Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline". Other notable arrivals include a re-entry for the Sex Pistols' 23-year-old "Never Mind the Bollocks" at 20, Van Morisson's collaboration with Linda Gail Lewis ("You Win Again"), at 34, and barely noticeable, at 47, we have the Waterboys' "A Rock In the Weary Land".
