Jermaine Dupri slated for another Ascap R&B award

On Monday, June 25, 2007, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers
(ASCAP) will honor Grammy Award winning producer, Jermaine "JD" Dupri as Songwriter
of the Year at their 20th Annual Rhythm & Soul Awards. This prestigious honor follows
Dupri's impressive sixth Songwriter of the Year distinction at ASCAP's annual Pop Music
Awards in April.
Dupri was recognized as Songwriter of the Year, along with singer/songwriter, Johnta
Austin, for the hit songs, "Grillz" (Nelly), "Like You" (Bow Wow featuring Ciara),
"Pullin' Me Back" (Chingy featuring Tyrese) and "Don't Forget About Us", "Shake it Off"
and "We Belong Together" by Mariah Carey. In addition, he was presented with the esteemed
Quincy Jones Lifetime Achievement Award at the 21st Annual Soul Train Music Awards in
March.
JD's 20+ year career has established him as one of the most creative and influential
figures in the music business. As founder and CEO of So So Def Recordings, producer and
songwriter, Dupri has launched and catapulted the careers of some of the most popular
recording artists of our time. He has been the driving force behind dozens of gold,
platinum and multi-platinum albums for numerous artists and is a platinum-selling artist
himself. JD is also one of only a few producers in music history to garner four songs in
the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart at one time and the top three spots on the
R&B/Hip-Hop chart at one time.
In February, Dupri was appointed president of Island Records Urban Music, a new division
of the Island Def Jam Music Group. In his new position, JD oversees Island's Urban Music
operation and provides his much sought after production services to the various record
labels under parent company, Universal Music Group.
