Pop CD of the week: Mariah Carey

This sumptuously barbed follow-up to Carey's 12 million-selling 2005 album The Emancipation Of Mimi confirms that there's more to Mariah than puppies and candyfloss. That promise of "I will hunt you down" on the seductive single, Touch My Body, is suggestive of Scarface's Tony Montana, rather than Disney's Hannah Montana.

And in the course of Side Effects' haunting account of her relationship with music-biz mogul Tommy Mottola (in which the best-selling female artist in pop history describes herself as "Shining like a chandelier that decorated every room inside the private hell we built"), Mariah Carey discovers uncharted ground between Rihanna's Umbrella and Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar.
