Carey leads cancer charity song

Fifteen of the most popular female singers in the US, including Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Leona Lewis, have joined forces to record a charity song. Profits from Just Stand Up, which also features Natasha Bedingfield and Rihanna, will go to cancer research.

The song will be released in the US on 2 September. All 15 stars will perform the song live on the Stand Up To Cancer US television special on 5 September. Jennifer Aniston is among stars due to appear on the fundraising show. She is expected to be joined by celebrities including Meryl Streep, Lance Armstrong and Reese Witherspoon on the hour-long TV special, which will be broadcast simultaneously on US channels ABC, NBC and CBS.

The charity song was conceived and co-produced by Antonio "LA" Reid, chairman of record label Island Def Jam. He made the record with fellow producer Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds. Other singers on the track include Mary J Blige, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, LeAnn Rimes and Carrie Underwood. The all-star line-up is completed by Miley Cyrus, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Ashanti and Melissa Etheridge.

Stand Up To Cancer, formed in 2007, encourages celebrities to help fight cancer.
