"I'll Be Lovin' You U Time" review number 2
The third single from her E=MC2 album sticks rigidly to the formula that made Mariah a superstar again after the Glitter fiasco: midtempo R&B beats, cooing choruses and a vocal performance that's surprisingly restrained from a woman with eight octaves at her disposal and no-one to tell her what to do.
Yet, in spite of its predictability, "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" still makes for a satisfying listen, sounding classy, effortless and as summery as a glass of rosé in the garden after a work. Plus, as with most things Mariah does these days, there's an intriguing hint of strangeness lurking just beneath the surface - who else would name a song about eternal dovotion after a line from Full Metal Jacket?
