International media covers Mariah Carey in Aspen

Aspen gets a big jolt of international publicity during this time of year and the resulting coverage forms the perception of the resort for millions around the world. The popular and successful singer Mariah Carey is in town this week and she is increasingly becoming associated with Christmas in Aspen.

The New York Post reported Wednesday that Carey's new husband Nick Cannon just bought her a $5 million pad in Aspen - complete with diamond jewelry in each room. Meanwhile, dozens of other media outlets reported that the couple was strolling through downtown Tuesday displaying Carey's finer attributes.

Photos of the 38-year-old Carey in Aspen wearing large red apres ski boots from Dior and a red down jacket - zipped strategically down over her ample chest - were featured on the Web sites of many newspapers and celebrity sites.

The China Daily quoted Carey as saying "We go in the hot tub in our Christmas bikinis, then roll in the fresh snow and jump back in the tub. I usually wear a red bikini with a Santa hat."

Carey, who has been visiting Aspen for several years in a row, is also on the cover of Redbook magazine's holiday issue and tells the magazine: "I don't really do up my New York apartment for Christmas; I save everything for Aspen. The house there is all done up with lights and bells - not over the top, but quaint. It's like a gingerbread house."

Carey may be Aspen's lead celebrity this time of year, although Penny Parker of the Rocky Mountain News noted on Christmas Eve that regular Aspen celebrities - Jack, Goldy, Kurt and George - were also in town for the holidays, along with academy-award winning actress Hillary Swank.
