The-Dream turned Carey duet fantasy into reality
R&B singer/songwriter The-dream hatched a cunning plan to snag Mariah Carey for his song
My Love - by spreading news of the duet before he'd even approached the superstar. The-Dream
- the lyricist behind Rihanna's smash hit single Umbrella - reveals he penned the lyrics of
the track with the Heartbreaker singer in mind, but had no idea whether Carey or her Island
Def Jam label boss Antonio "L.A." Reid would approve the duet.|
So the star began to name-check Carey in his interviews and talk about the joint project -
and that prompted Reid to get in touch and help turn the hitmaker's dreams into a reality.
He tells XXL magazine, "I wrote that record and immediately thought, this is a great record
for me and Mariah, if she wants to do it. The next morning I had an interview, and I'm like,
'Yeah, I got Mariah on this record called My Love' - knowing damn well I hadn't even asked
her to get on it. L.A. (Reid) was like, 'What the hell is he talking about?' But they called
M.C. (Carey), and she got the record and was like, 'I f**kin' love it.' I'm like, 'My hunch
was right, I just spoke it into existence.' "

I know Britney also did one for her residency with E and that one was just ok. I don't know for some reason I didn't really ... read more

Since it was recently mentioned here (in a different context), I thought about bringing it up. I get the impression that most fans prefer Mariah and Whitney live on Oprah. That was also my initial preference, though at this point I prefer the Oscars' version. What I realized about the Oprah live was that there was some overdubbing on Mariah's first... read more

I hope Mariah rearranges her hits to fit her current voice. Instead of straining to hit notes that could damage or ruin her voice permanently.
