The-Dream turned Carey duet fantasy into reality

R&B singer/songwriter The-dream hatched a cunning plan to snag Mariah Carey for his song My Love - by spreading news of the duet before he'd even approached the superstar. The-Dream - the lyricist behind Rihanna's smash hit single Umbrella - reveals he penned the lyrics of the track with the Heartbreaker singer in mind, but had no idea whether Carey or her Island Def Jam label boss Antonio "L.A." Reid would approve the duet.
So the star began to name-check Carey in his interviews and talk about the joint project - and that prompted Reid to get in touch and help turn the hitmaker's dreams into a reality. He tells XXL magazine, "I wrote that record and immediately thought, this is a great record for me and Mariah, if she wants to do it. The next morning I had an interview, and I'm like, 'Yeah, I got Mariah on this record called My Love' - knowing damn well I hadn't even asked her to get on it. L.A. (Reid) was like, 'What the hell is he talking about?' But they called M.C. (Carey), and she got the record and was like, 'I f**kin' love it.' I'm like, 'My hunch was right, I just spoke it into existence.' "

MCIIY review, response to Billy (48,076) by ADAM from USA

Billy thanks for your insightful review of MCIIY. It's one of my favorite albums and IMO a lesson for any singer about how to create a sequel to a best selling Christmas album. Lol. First world problems I know. I love the interludes on this album and how as a whole the moods shifts between songs to a final climax. Mariah's mastery of music making h... read more

"Born Is the King" / MCIIY (48,075) by Billy from Greece

I can literally sit through a whole album of "Born Is the King" interludes. The hypnotic harmonies, the deep and slow beat, the layers, just timeless R&B gorgeousness. I've started listening to "MCIIY" lately, which I loved instantly when it came out. "The First Noel" probably contains the best, most clear and "bright" vocal on the album, while all... read more

You playlist is perfect. I wonder what it sounds like sequenced. I saw that you had "Help Me Make it Through The Night" on your playlist. Do you have the song or did you just put it on your playlist? I've been looking for a high quality version of it forever and can't seem to find one. If you know where to get one, would you mind sharing?
