"Love" at first "vision"

While the Billboard Hot 100 this week nineteen years ago sported a new No. 1, the leap of another song marked the landmark first top five for a rookie who would go on to become music royalty. Glenn Medeiros rose 2-1 with "She Ain't Worth It", featuring Bobby Brown. The song was the first No. 1 for Medeiros and the second for Brown. The former New Edition member had reigned in 1989 with "My Prerogative" (fifteen years before Britney Spears covered the song).

Few could've foreseen, however, the significance of the move of the song at No. 5. On July 21, 1990, Mariah Carey inked her first top five with the 14-5 vault of "Vision of Love". The song became her first of 26 career top five titles to date. 19 years later, only two artists have posted more top fives on the Hot 100: the Beatles (29) and Madonna (28).
